RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch
23rd January 2012 14:59:08
This weekend I will be taking part in the RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch, Twice.............., once at home in my own garden and once in the Homestead Park in York.
At home, I am excited to see if all my efforts over the last year to grow plants that the birds love to eat has helped increase their numbers, particularly after last year’s terrible winter. I predict that because our weather has been rather nice this year and therefore our insect populations have grown, hopefully our bird populations will grow too, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Search, demonstrate and influence are three words that really underpin the vision of JRF and JRHT the organisation I work for. In the Parks and Gardens team, our aim is to search out the extent of bird life that we are responsible for, demonstrate ways to increase the bird populations with the help of our fantastic local community, and hopefully influence the sustainability of those populations for future generations to enjoy.
On Saturday the 28th of January I will be in the Homestead Park taking part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch (for the JRF) from 10am till 11am, if you’re local I’d love for you to come along and give me a hand, all you need is a pen and paper.
I look forward to seeing some of you there.

This morning I managed to rope Tom into helping me prepare for the weekends events by putting out some bird feeder, a mix of seed nuts and fat balls. This afternoon we went to check if we'd had any interest in the food only to find that the squirrels had run off with almost all of the fat balls. I guess we'll have to stick to the feeders :-) hehe
